Ravena - Coeymans USA 250 Celebration
The Village of Ravena and the Town of Coeymans will mark America’s 250th anniversary with a three-day community celebration featuring music, food, historical demonstrations, family activities, a parade and fireworks.
The celebration begins Friday, July 10, with an Adult Block Party at Mosher Park from 7 to 10 p.m. The event will feature music by DJ Billy Hardy, food from the Ravena Hose Co. and Vasto Vending, Roy’s Caribbean Rest., Rail to River Brewing, product samples from New Scotland Spirits and adult only swim time at the pool.
Events continue Saturday, July 11, with a parade stepping off at noon from Mosher Park and ending at Coeymans Landing.
Activities at Coeymans Landing will run throughout the day and include performances by the Musicats Quartet, Break-A-Legg DJ Service and Dusk till Dawn. The event will also feature food and craft vendors, bounce houses, axe throwing and historical activities and demonstrations. Attractions will include the Village Volunteers Fife and Drum Corps, musket demonstrations by re-enactors from the 2nd Regiment Albany County Militia, a cannon firing over the Hudson River, a replica 18th-century Revolutionary War-era bateaux, the Historic Cherry Hill interactive game and a children’s historical activity tent. Demonstrations will include wool spinning, wood carving, blacksmithing and a presentation on the history of the colonial drink called “flip”. Fireworks will take place over the river at dusk.
Shuttle service from Pieter B. Coeymans School to Coeymans Landing will be available from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, courtesy of the RCS Transportation Department.
The weekend continues Sunday, July 12, with a community activity day featuring several local sites open to visitors.
Participating sites will include the Ravena Coeymans Historical Society Museum, the Alcove Preservations associations’ Valley paper Mill Park, the Little Red Schoolhouse Museum, the Ravena Grange, Trinity United Methodist Church and the Coeymans Hollow Fire Department. Many family-friendly activities are planned throughout the day.
Residents and visitors are invited to attend the weekend celebration honoring our nation’s 250th anniversary.
